Gérald Santucci, Head of Unit, e-government-Applications relating to Administrations-Directorate General Information Society, European Commission

 

 

Gérald Santucci, 47, has been Head of the Unit “Applications relating to Administrations” since May 1999 and has been working in the Directorate General Information Society of the European Commission since February 1986.  Since the beginning of the implementation of the 5th Framework Programme’s IST programme, he has been striving to mobilise the Public Administration stakeholders towards realising by 2010 the goal of “Integrated Government” – a ubiquitous and secure infrastructure, based on the innovative use of ambient intelligence technologies, that promotes improved service delivery and knowledgeable citizenry.  His unit’s project portfolio currently includes 44 projects among which 33 address the interactions between governments and their clients (“Smart Government”) and 11 concern the participation of citizens in the public matters and debate (“eDemocracy”).  Over the years, Mr. Santucci has gained a wide experience in the activities of the Directorate General through his involvement in research management (the AIM – Advanced Informatics in Medicine – exploratory action, 1986-1989, the Telematics Applications Programme, 1993-1998) and in the international aspects of telecommunications (1990-1992).  Mr Santucci holds a B.A. from the Institut d’études Politiques de Paris, and a Ph.D. in Microeconomics from the University of Paris-XII.
