Main Topic:
Key topics include intelligent agents (distributed artificial intelligence), enterprise integration, service oriented architecture, web services and service composition, ontologies, semantic web.

Goal: To understand the principles of intelligent agents and multi-agent systems, to review Web service concepts and the semantic web as a emerging approach to enterprise integration, to understand agent-based approaches to service composition and their benefits

Organizer Presentation:

Min-Jung Yoo is an assistant professor at the University of Lausanne - HEC (Hautes Ecoles Commerciales). She received the M.S. and PhD degrees in computer science from the University of Paris 6 (Pierre et Marie Curie) in 1999.

Her research interests include:

            Intelligent agents and multi-agent systems,

            Component-based software engineering,

            E-learning documents on the Internet,

            Semantic web,

            Web services,

            Enterprise application integration.

Some parts of the tutorial will be mainly based on one of her work "Enterprise Integration" - a book chapter (Robin Qiu, co-authors) which is included in the forthcoming book "More CIO Wisdom" (Philip Laplante editor, Prentice Hall 2005). The other parts stemmed from her course which is actually given at HEC - "Intelligent Agents for Collaborative Information Systems"-, which is complemented by advanced discussions.

Program: For this half-day tutorial of 3 hours (180 minutes of face time), I expect to allocate about 40, 30, 40, 40, and 30 minutes respectively to the following sections:

.Introduction to intelligent agents and multi-agent system (40 min)
Brief history
Three principles

.Brief discussion on enterprise integration and service-oriented architecture (30 min)
Taxonomy of Enterprise Application Integration
Service oriented architecture
Motivation for Web Service composition
.Web services (40 min)

Key elements: WSDL, SOAP, UDDI, Directory services
.Introduction to Semantic web (40 min)
